Our Story

Rune Spaces started in Brickfields with a straightforward observation: most clients arriving at an interior designer already know what they dislike about their current space. They've lived in it long enough. What they need is someone to help translate that feeling into a structure they can act on.

We built the studio around that insight. Every service we offer is designed to give clients a clearer understanding of their own space — not to impose an aesthetic, but to develop one that fits. The compass metaphor isn't decorative. We think of our work as orientation. We help you find your direction, and then we help you get there.

Based in Jalan Scott, we've worked on apartments in KLCC, shophouses in Petaling Jaya, family homes in Bangsar, and office conversions throughout the city centre. Each project has reinforced the same belief: good interior design is mostly about listening first.

Our Mission

To make interior design accessible, legible, and genuinely collaborative for clients in Malaysia. We want every person who works with us to feel informed rather than overwhelmed, and to end the process with a space they understand — not just one they admire.

We work with three core commitments: we document everything we decide, we explain our reasoning when asked, and we respect the pace at which our clients want to move. No pressure. No artificial urgency.

How We Work

Our standards aren't aspirational statements. They're built into how every project is structured and delivered.

Written Documentation

Every decision and instruction is recorded in writing. Briefs, specification sheets, and contractor handover packages are all provided as part of each service.

Client Data Privacy

Property plans, photos, and personal information shared during your project are kept strictly confidential and never used for promotional purposes without written consent.

Site Review Protocol

During implementation, we conduct scheduled site visits to verify contractor work against specifications. Issues are flagged and documented — not glossed over.

Ethical Procurement

We source from Malaysian suppliers and select contractors with demonstrable track records. We don't accept referral fees — our recommendations are made solely in your interest.

Industry Membership

Rune Spaces maintains active membership with the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), keeping our practice current with professional standards and ethical guidelines.

Clear Communication

We don't use design jargon unless we've explained it first. All updates, requests, and decisions are communicated in plain language, and response times are kept within one business day.

Interior Design in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur's built environment spans several distinct typologies — from pre-war shophouses in Brickfields and Chow Kit, to high-rise condominiums in Mont Kiara and Bangsar South, to terrace homes in Subang Jaya and Puchong. Each requires a different spatial thinking. Rune Spaces has worked across all of them.

Our approach to residential interior design in Malaysia begins with spatial analysis: understanding how the occupants actually move through and use a space, rather than how a developer's show unit suggests they should. This informs everything from furniture placement and natural light management to material choice and storage planning.

For commercial interiors — offices, retail, hospitality — the same analytical rigour applies, with additional consideration for regulatory requirements under UBBL and fire safety guidelines relevant to Malaysian construction. We work alongside licensed contractors and architects where required.

Rune Spaces is based in Jalan Scott, Brickfields, within walking distance of KL Sentral. We accept projects across the Klang Valley and welcome an initial conversation with no commitment required.
